Pilates and Exercise Strengthening Classes
What is pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that aids in recovery, injury prevention and overall physical health. Pilates places a strong emphasis on core strength and purposeful movement, helping to relieve pain and improve muscle strength. At Continuum, we use a combination of both mat pilates with a yoga or exercise mat, and reformer pilates, using reformer equipment that allows for resistance.

While regular pilates classes offer some of the same benefits, like muscle and core strengthening, our clinical pilates is led by a trained physiotherapist and tailored to your individual circumstances. Our team makes sure that every movement is backed by evidence and designed to support your wellbeing, while generic classes are unlikely to take your individual needs into account.
Absolutely — the controlled movements of pilates help to strengthen muscles and improve mobility, which in turn can alleviate the symptoms of chronic pain. When we create your tailored treatment plan, we take into account your pain and existing health conditions to avoid exacerbating your pain, instead prioritising gentle movements that will help you feel better.
Pilates is an excellent low-impact option for older adults, helping you to improve coordination and mobility without putting unnecessary stress on your body. Our programs are safely modified to suit your individual circumstances.
